First-year PhD students from the Department of Animal Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, have received hands-on training in science communication to help them better share their research with the public and policymakers.

The two-day training, coordinated by Head of Department Prof. Kwaku Adomako and Dr. (Mrs.) Antoinette Simpah Anim-Jnr forms part of the growing effort within KNUST to ensure that scientific work contributes meaningfully to society through clear and responsible communication.

The course was facilitated by Mr. Emmanuel Kwasi Debrah, Assistant Registrar and Head of the Digital Communications Section at the University Relations Office, KNUST.
Speaking during the session, Mr. Debrah stressed the importance of authenticity in communicating scientific findings.
“We don’t want misinterpretation. It’s your responsibility to simplify findings but ensure scientific accuracy,” he added. He also cautioned against exaggeration in scientific reporting, encouraging students to “present stuff as they are.”
The training covered digital storytelling tools, including the use of visuals and infographics, social media etiquette, interview preparation, and beginner-level videography.
